 On the night of Sunday, May 22, 2011, a devastating EF5 tornado ripped through the city of Joplin, destroying everything in its path. As a result, 161 lives were lost, buildings were leveled, and the entire city was left a sobering pile of rubble. Netflix offers a wealth of intense documentaries on its platform, but perhaps none are as thrilling and impactful as "The Tornado: Caught in the Storm." With surprisingly good tension building to the devastation, along with an emotional conclusion that analyzes the aftermath of the disaster, this is a substantial documentary. And despite being less than 90 minutes long, this documentary is powerful. Elemental 2023 Movie Review Trailer Cast Crew

The first teaser for "Elemental," Pixar's first animated romantic comedy, dropped Thursday. Like many Pixar movies, "Elemental" imagines a society where non-human beings live and work together. The film is set in Element City, where beings made of the four classical elements (water, earth, fire, and air) coexist in a world very similar to today's.

The main character, Ember, is a tough and witty young woman made of fire, who meets and develops a friendship with her polar opposite in both element and personality: the laid-back and sentimental Wade, a young man made of water. Challenged by the fact that literally touching Wade hurts Ember, her friendship causes her to reconsider her beliefs about the world. The teaser shows their cute meeting, so to speak, where they both reach to grab Ember's headphones after she drops them in a crowded train car. The teaser also reveals some of the character designs for the inhabitants of Element City, with children made of clouds and wind and grassy people with trees and flowers growing out of their bodies populating the frame.

"Elementary" is directed by Peter Sohn, who has worked at Pixar since 2003 when he was a story artist and producer on "Finding Nemo." After working as an animator on "The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "Wall-E" and "Up," he was promoted to Pixar's senior creative team in 2013 and made his directorial debut with 2015's "The Good Dinosaur." At a presentation of stills from the film at D23 Expo in September, Sohn said the film was inspired by the love story of her parents, who immigrated to New York from Korea in the 1970s. "Elemental" opens in theaters on June 16, 2023.
