 The 2022 film Padre Pio is a biographical drama depicting the life of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, a Capuchin friar and mystic who became famous for his stigmata and spiritual gifts. Directed by Giacomo Campiotti and starring Sergio Castellitto as Padre Pio, the film tells the story of the friar's spiritual path, his sufferings and his dedication to God and neighbor.


The film opens with the young Francesco Forgione, the birth name of Padre Pio, growing up in a poor family in the Italian town of Pietrelcina. Despite his humble origins, Francesco shows an early interest in religion and spirituality, and begins to experience mystical visions and prophetic dreams. As he grows older, he becomes a Capuchin friar and takes the name Pio, after Saint Pius V.
