The first season of the Disney+ series "Andor" doesn't take off until August 31, but showrunner Tony Gilroy has already confirmed multiple time jumps in the now-planned second season.
Set five years before the events of "Rogue One," the series stars Diego Luna as rebel pilot Cassian Andor. While Cassian ultimately meets a fatal end after helping deliver the Death Star to Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), the prequel series will span the five years leading up to “Rogue One” in two seasons.

According to Empire Magazine, the first season of "Andor" will focus on Cassian's life as a Rebellion agent and will cover one year of her life in 12 episodes. However, “Andor” season 2 will cover a total of four years, jumping forward one year every three episodes.
“The scale of the show is so huge,” Gilroy explained. “Directors work in three-episode blocks, so we did four blocks [in season 1] of three episodes each. [For season 2] we looked at it and said, 'Wow, it would be really interesting if we went back and used each block to represent a year.' We're going to get a year closer with each block...' From a storytelling standpoint, it's really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then skip a year." Gilroy previously called "Andor" a "spy thriller" that uses "oblique" storytelling to recast the 2016 film trilogy.
Andor is breaking new ground for Star Wars and Disney+ like The Mandalorian did when it first hit the streamer. That series launched an unprecedented new form of production that saved the studio an immense amount of money on sets and locations. The Volume creates a digital surround set, replacing the much-used green screen. This allows for a more immersive environment, which is much better for the actors to work in because they are actually interacting with an image rather than viewing it through green screen. "It might have some props to stand on," Giancarlo Esposito told Collider, "but there's nothing else in there except what's projected."
"It's about him being really anti-revolutionary, cynical, lost and a little bit of a mess," Gilroy said of subverting "Star Wars" fan expectations, with the story following Andor (Luna) into the age adult after the destruction of her world. .
"His adopted home is going to become the basis for our entire first season, and we see that place radicalized," Gilroy continued. “Then we see another planet that is completely dismantled in a colonial way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They're taking out anyone who gets in their way."
The cast of the series includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona and Fiona Shaw. “Andor” will also mark the return of Genevieve O’Reilly as former senator turned rebel leader Mon Mothma. Emmy-winning “Succession” composer Nicholas Britell is in charge of the score.
