The Eyes of Ghana 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Two-time Oscar winner Ben Proudfoot turns his lens toward Chris Hesse, a 90-year-old man brimming with energy who filmed the most significant historical events in Ghana. Depending on whom you ask, Kwame Nkrumah is either a hero—tragically denied the chance to see his vision realized—or a narcissistic, would-be dictator. Director: Ben Proudfoot Stars: Edmund Addo, Anita Afonu, Chris Hesse As prime minister and, later, president of Ghana, Nkrumah oversaw the African nation’s peaceful separation from Great Britain and became a fervent advocate for Pan-Africanism. He championed the union of African nations into an entity he dreamed of calling the "United States of Africa," convinced that by uniting to control the continent’s natural resources, Africa could break free from colonial influence and emerge as a key player on the global stage. Yet, he also resorted to authoritarian tactics—such as declaring Ghana a one-party state with himself as president for life—which ultimately tr...

On the Road 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
Winner of the Queer Lion and an award in the Orizzonti (Horizons) section at Venice, this intoxicating and sensual genre piece by Mexican director David Pablos has nothing to do with Kerouac, though it possesses its own wandering spirit. *On the Road*—an ill-chosen English title, being both generic and overly specific—refers to a highly unique genre project by Mexican writer-director David Pablos; a work that will surprise those who come to see it expecting yet another adaptation of Jack Kerouac—at least in terms of the most obvious connections.  Director: David Pablos Writer: David Pablos Stars: Victor Prieto Simental, Osvaldo Sanchez, Victor Manuel Aguirre In other respects, however, Pablos’s fifth feature film taps into the great North American narrative tradition of the open road, with all the infinite directions it offers to drifting souls. The film follows a world-weary truck driver and an impetuous gay hitchhiker as they forge a dangerous and increasingly intimate bond...

The New Stanford Prison Experiment 2026 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
Participants take turns assuming the roles of guards and inmates in what serves as a social experiment. *The New Stanford Prison Experiment* revisits one of the most controversial studies in psychology. Inspired by the infamous 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, the program explores how ordinary people react when authority, control, and personal freedom are integrated into a social hierarchy. The original experiment, led by Philip Zimbardo, sought to analyze individual behavior by assigning participants the roles of prisoners and guards.  What was initially intended to last two weeks ended after just six days, as the treatment of the participants began to raise serious ethical concerns. Decades later, the study remains a subject of controversy; the methodology employed and the influence of the researchers have been called into question, complicating the validity of its conclusions. In *The New Stanford Prison Experiment*, the creators offer a fresh approach to these issues, fea...

The Terminal List 2026 Tv Series Season 2 Review Trailer

Image
Four years have passed since *The Terminal List* burst onto Prime Video; ever since, fans have been patiently awaiting the return of James Reece, played by Chris Pratt. Last year’s prequel, *The Terminal List: Dark Wolf*, helped keep the audience engaged, but the main series has finally returned—and it’s packed with action. After seeing his life shattered by shadowy government forces, Reece—the sole survivor of an attack aimed at him—decided to take justice into his own hands to avenge his family and his unit.  While the first season was an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jack Carr—a former Navy SEAL turned author—the second season is based on its sequel, *True Believer*. It incorporates highly relevant geopolitical analysis and sets up future storylines, making this action thriller more vibrant and conspiracy-laden than ever before. *The Terminal List* returns with a bang for its second season Creators: Jack Carr, David DiGilio Stars: Chris Pratt, Constance Wu, Jared S...

Kung Fu Soccer 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Twenty-five years after achieving resounding success—with both critics and audiences—for his martial arts sports comedy *Shaolin Soccer*, Hong Kong cinema legend Stephen Chow has released an absolutely disastrous sequel that fails to replicate any of the elements that made its predecessor a triumph. The most notable difference between the two films is deliberately obscured by the English title: *Kung Fu Soccer*—or "Women’s Kung Fu Soccer" in Chinese—shifts focus away from Fung, the protagonist of the original film, and his motley crew of skilled footballers, centering instead on a new team of female players. Much like *Ted Lasso*’s recent decision to embrace women’s football, Chow follows suit here; however, the result is so abysmal that it practically begs for a VAR review. Although the plot is nominally set in Hong Kong—as evidenced by several easily recognizable locations—*Kung Fu Soccer* follows the trend of Chow’s more recent work by focusing exclusively on a mainland Ch...

Human 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
*Human* (2025) is an unsettling horror film that aims to deliver an intense cinematic experience through disturbing imagery, unpredictable twists, and a plot that gradually pushes its characters into increasingly dangerous territory. Directed by Matt Stuertz and starring Jackie Kelly, Brock Russell, Jeffrey Decker, and Cecily Dowd, the film presents a nightmarish journey in which an ordinary nighttime situation transforms into something far more terrifying than the protagonist could have ever imagined.  The film belongs to a subgenre of horror that deliberately challenges the viewer’s comfort, blending explicit violence, bizarre encounters, and abrupt shifts in tone to create an experience that is as disturbing as it is entertaining. Rather than relying solely on standard supernatural tropes, *Human* builds its identity around escalating chaos and the inherent unpredictability of human behavior.  Director: Matt Stuertz Writer: Matt Stuertz Stars: Jeffrey Decker, Cecily D...

Wildwood 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
"Enjoy handmade art before it disappears forever." Attentive viewers might catch these words, which flash briefly on screen during the opening moments of *Wildwood*—amidst a flurry of imagery and visual gags that whiz by as the young protagonist pedals furiously through the cozy, bustling streets of Portland, Oregon. The phrase, printed on a sign next to some rustic-looking pottery by a local artisan, gently pokes fun at the city’s wholesome, slightly "hippie" spirit; yet, at the same time, it serves as a sincere endorsement of the artisanal virtues that define *Wildwood* itself.  If this inside joke sounds a bit self-congratulatory, director Travis Knight and his team have every reason to boast: the sixth feature film from the independent animation studio Laika is a dazzling achievement—a *stop-motion* feat that is tactile, richly detailed, and bears an unmistakable human touch—on a scale rarely seen in this medium. It stands out, by a wide margin, in an animation...

Fjord 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
Cristian Mungiu returns with *Fjord*, a measured yet sharp psychological drama that meticulously dissects the friction between the institutional propriety of Western Europe and the traditional identity of Eastern Europe. Set against the serene, if isolating, landscapes of rural Norway, the film follows the Gheorghiu family—a Romanian father (Sebastian Stan) and a Norwegian mother (Renate Reinsve)—whose lives descend into a nightmare sparked by a mere suspicion, leaving them ensnared by a rigid child-protection system and an underlying current of xenophobia. Mungiu masterfully avoids a black-and-white moral framework. While the family’s strict, religiously conservative worldview is by no means romanticized, the system’s subtle, systemic hostility toward "outsiders" is rendered painfully clear. The plot is set in motion not by the children directly accusing their parents, but by school authorities reporting the presence of minor bruises and overly rigid household rules.  Direct...

War 2026 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
"War" is the first season of an HBO and Sky Television series that features a very specific and unique hook. It is conceived as a sort of anthology: each season tackles a different area of law, yet the same two law firms remain, facing off against each other in different contexts. It has a vibe reminiscent of other HBO hits—such as "Industry," "Succession," or "Divorce"—though with a lighter tone, closer to that of conventional television. While this might sometimes be interpreted negatively, I mean it as a compliment to how enjoyable and easy to watch the series is. The first season kicks off with a complex and tense divorce proceeding between Morgan Henderson (Dominic West) and Carla Duval (Sienna Miller). Carla has been an A-list actress for decades and was already a star when she married Morgan. During their marriage, he built a social media empire: an app focused on "positivity" called Zephyr. The role Carla played in the creatio...

Tenzing 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
The risk-aversion and timidity displayed in *Tenzing* make it the polar opposite of the men it seeks to honor—a fact that, ultimately, does them a disservice. A brief look at Jennifer Peedom’s filmography reveals that she has directed several documentaries about mountains, Sherpas, and rivers. Given that two of her previous films are titled *Sherpa* and *Miracle on Everest*, this is by no means her first time tackling the subject of Mount Everest. What sets *Tenzing* apart is that it is a work of fiction: a dramatized account of the successful 1953 ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary.  Director: Jennifer Peedom Writers: Luke Davies, Jennifer Peedom, Ed Douglas Stars: Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe This appears to be Peedom’s first foray into conventional narrative filmmaking, and her struggle to breathe freshness or excitement into well-worn storytelling tropes is palpable. Working from a screenplay by Luke Davies, the director leans in...

Breeder 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Is a film about a somewhat clumsy, glory-hungry man in his twenties—involving eugenics, human trafficking, and incestuous voyeurism—supposed to be this entertaining? That is the question you will find yourself asking while watching *Breeder*, Alex Goyette’s foray into the horror genre, which premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.  The film follows a college student (Daniel Doheny) who has lost the funding for his research on bees. Desperate, he ends up visiting a mysterious poodle breeder (Dot-Marie Jones) at her isolated ranch. Patti offers to cover his financial needs, but with one condition: he must procreate with her daughter. As it unfolds, *Breeder* becomes claustrophobic, rapidly transforming into a kidnapping-themed horror film, much like *The Black Phone*, *Fresh*, or *Split*. Yet, it is the initial premise that truly stands out. The viewer learns enough about Russell to understand why he might accept Patti’s outlandish proposal. In a cultural climate shaped by di...

Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
In 2006, Choi Dong-hoon launched an unexpected franchise with *Tazza: The High Rollers*—a South Korean film that became iconic for that era and is frequently cited by fans as one of the country’s most entertaining movies. Since that initial adaptation of the original *webtoon*, the franchise has expanded over the decades to include numerous sequels and television series.  It is clear that *Tazza* has grown significantly, with new cinematic installments appearing from time to time. While I have yet to see *One-Eyed Jacks*, I am a fan of both Choi’s original film and its first follow-up, *The Hidden Card* (2014), directed by Kang Hyeong-cheol. How does *Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub* compare to its predecessors? Let’s place a bet and find out. Director: Kook-Hee Choi Writers: Se-young Kim, Heo Yeong-man Stars: Byun Yo-han, Roh Jae-won, Ayaka Miyoshi Jang Tae-Young (Byun Yo-Han) is an exceptionally cunning and intelligent man who decides to set up a gambling business. To do so, he recr...

Wicker 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, a couple in real life, discuss the signs that their film was destined to become an erotic phenomenon and an endless source of memes: "While working on these scenes, we realized they turned out to be surprisingly sexier than we had imagined." *Wicker*—a fantasy romantic comedy centered on an outcast fisherwoman who enjoys rather boisterous nights with her wicker husband—might well look familiar to you. Directors: Alex Huston Fischer, Eleanor Wilson Writers: Alex Huston Fischer, Ursula Wills, Eleanor Wilson Stars: Richard E. Grant, Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Olivia Colman The film, the work of directors, co-writers, and real-life married couple Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, has taken on a life of its own since social media—and that corner of the internet where memes are born—discovered this intimate independent feature. And who could blame them? Based on the 14-page short story *The Wicker Husband* by Ursula Wills-Jones, the film sta...

Queen at Sea 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Amanda (Juliette Binoche) is an academic who returns to London to care for her mother, Leslie (Anna Calder-Marshall), whose severe dementia is eroding both her memory and her autonomy. When Amanda discovers Leslie engaging in sexual activity with her stepfather, Martin (Tom Courtenay), she impulsively calls the police. This event confronts her with complex moral dilemmas regarding sexual consent and the limited care options available to those with advanced dementia. The story is compelling because each character acts out of a mixture of love, denial, and frustration while grappling with the cruel reality of the illness. Although the stakes might appear minor on the surface, the dramatic intensity is immense. Director: Lance Hammer Writer: Lance Hammer Stars: Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall All the adult leads deliver convincing performances; meanwhile, Florence Hunt—who plays Sara, Amanda’s daughter—demonstrates great versatility as she navigates the challeng...

Flywheel: Ignition of the Soul 2026 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
Christian filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick began their careers with the drama *Flywheel* (2003). Since then, they have positioned themselves at the forefront of faith-based cinema with hits such as *Fireproof*, *War Room*, and *The Forge*. Now, they present *Flywheel: Ignition of the Soul*, a new Brazilian version of their debut film. Directed by Alessandro Barros, this production has been dubbed into English. Noah Silva (Mario Bregiera) is a dishonest car salesman. He overcharges customers, conceals damage to the used vehicles he sells, and teaches his employees how to maximize profits through lies. None of this weighs on his conscience—not even in the slightest—until one night, he turns on the television and begins watching a preacher. Suddenly, Noah decides to commit his life to Jesus Christ. This entails making amends for the harm caused to all the customers he deceived. Although doing so puts his earnings at risk, he trusts that God will set everything right. Director: Alessan...
