Plane 2023 Movie Review Trailer Cast Crew

Plane Gerard Butler returns to the genre that made him a star in this action thriller about a downed plane on a remote island in the Philippines. He will have to brave the jungle on a rescue mission alongside Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and with the remote help of Tony Goldwyn, if he wants to get his passengers out alive. Plane will be released by Lionsgate in theaters on January 13, 2023.

An action movie starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter might seem like an obvious win to everyone, especially audiences, but Plane has had a surprisingly turbulent journey on the big screen. The rights to this action movie about a plane crash were first acquired by MadRiver Pictures in 2016 and in 2019 Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights to the film. This seemingly straightforward deal was significantly complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic which delayed filming and even caused Lionsgate to briefly drop the project. But now finally, despite all the bumps, this tense action flick is finally landing in theaters on January 13.

Director: Jean-François Richet
Writers: Charles Cumming, J.P. Davis
Stars: Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An

Plane is directed by French director, producer and screenwriter Jean-François Richet. Richet's 1995 film Inner City won the César Award for Best First Feature. He has also directed films including 2018's The Emperor of Paris and 2016's Blood Father. The screenplay for Plane was written by Charlie Cumming and J.P. Davis. Cumming, who first came up with the release of Plane, is best known for his spy novels, including A Spy by Nature, The Trinity Six, and A Foreign Country. Davis is an American screenwriter who previously wrote the screenplay for the small film Fighting Tommy Riley.

Plane is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Marc Butan, as well as star Gerard Butler.

Brodie Torrance is a commercial airline pilot whose world is turned upside down when lightning cripples his plane. Forced to make an emergency landing, he and his fellow survivors find themselves on a deserted island in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the accident is only the beginning of his troubles, as most of his passengers are later taken hostage by dangerous rebels. Torrance is forced to enlist the help of Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported on the flight by US government agents. The two must work together and overcome their differences to rescue the passengers and keep everyone alive. .

Plane shows how harrowing things are for Torrance and Gaspare. They are in what appears to be an abandoned building, with roots hanging from the ceilings and walls, setting the tone for a place left behind by the civilized world. Both men are bruised and battered, with Torrance sporting a rather mean-looking black eye on his left eye. They've been through a lot already, and now they're hunting down the rebels kidnapping their compatriots. It remains to be seen if this is just the beginning of their harrowing journey, and if they will be able to successfully free most of the innocent hostages before they meet a deadly end.

In the trailer for Plane, at first it looks like this will be a fairly routine flight for pilot Brodie Torrance, albeit with a surprise passenger on board: Louis Gaspare, a fugitive extradited to the United States for a murder he committed. 15 years before. However, when the plane is struck by lightning and they are forced to make an emergency landing on a remote island, the crew and passengers quickly realize that the crash was just the beginning of their troubles. They soon discover that the island is inhabited by rebels so dangerous that the Philippine government has almost abandoned it. When most of the remaining passengers are taken hostage by the rebels, Torrance and Gaspare realize they must come together to rescue their fellow survivors and save themselves. They must survive together or die alone.

Described by Lionsgate as a "white-knuckle action flick," Plane follows a commercial pilot named Brodie Torrance. A heavy storm puts Brodie's piloting skills to the test, and when lightning strikes the plane, he must land immediately, but as the movie poster says, "the crash was just the beginning." After the plane crash-lands on the island of Jolo, an island off the Philippines that is the headquarters of the militant organization Abu Sayyaf, Brodie must do everything he can to protect his passengers and crew while terrorists take them hostage. Brodie finds help in this from an unlikely source: Louis Gaspare, a passenger who was on the plane because he was being extradited for murder.
