Civil servant Lee Hong-jo is swept up in a whirlwind of events when she stumbles upon an ancient book that holds the key to helping Jang Shin-yu, a handsome lawyer, in the Netflix K-drama “Destined With You.” .
Every enchanting fantasy K-drama requires a female lead whose mundane existence is turned upside-down due to a mysterious occurrence. Hong-jo, a modest civil servant, strives to excel at her job despite the barrage of complaints. Outside of her work, her life is lonely and she has grown accustomed to that isolation. One day, she stumbles across an ancient book that has been sealed inside a wooden chest for centuries.
Unbeknownst to her, this book contains the solution to Shin-yu's plight. A skilled attorney, handsome countenance, and intellectual acumen make Shin-yu irresistible wherever he goes. Behind the veneer of her immaculate attire lurks an enigmatic ailment that continues to deteriorate. For generations, her family has borne the weight of this curse.
By the conventions of any compelling romantic K-drama, Shin-yu and Hong-jo's paths converge and become inextricably entwined by fate. The book that fell into Hong-jo's possession turns out to be the key to lifting Shin-yu's curse. As the clock ticks down, her emotions deepen, paving the way for a blossoming love.
Fans will no doubt recognize Yura for her contributions as a K-Pop idol in the renowned girl group Girl's Day. She previously starred in another Netflix K-drama, “Forecasting Love and Weather,” playing the character Chae Yoo-jin. This talented idol actor also appeared on screens in “Find Me in Your Memory” and “Now, We Are Breaking Up,” alongside esteemed actor Song Hye-kyo from “The Glory.”
In Netflix's “Destined With You,” Yura takes on the quintessential role of Korean dramas: the girlfriend of the male lead. Naturally, no romantic K-drama is complete without its fair share of obstacles. Ha-joon's character, an assistant at the Onju city hall, turns out to be the object of Hong-jo's affections. Actor Jung takes on the role of Shin-hyu's mother, Song Yoon-joo, sharing the screen with Lee as Jang Se-hun, Shin-hyu's father and CEO of Bau Construction.
