Netflix has just released the official trailer for the live-action version of “One Piece”, about a group of young pirates.
The show, which will launch on August 31, is an adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga series of the same name. The story follows a boy named Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) who can stretch his body as if it were made of rubber and travels with a group of friends called the Straw Hat Pirates in search of a treasure known as One Piece, which would make him the Pirate King.

The manga has also been adapted into a long-running anime series, making "One Piece" a story that already has a dedicated fan following. The new trailer features fast-paced action sequences, light-hearted humor, and a host of fantastic events and dangerous encounters. In one scene, Luffy promises that they will find One Piece on the Grand Line, "a treacherous strip of ocean with bigger islands and bigger pirates."
Despite being one of the longest-running anime and manga in the world, it took One Piece almost a decade to finally get a live-action adaptation. One Piece will join Netflix's growing list of live-action anime and manga series adaptations, following in the footsteps of 2017's Death Note film and 2021's Cowboy Bebop series. Netflix's adaptation of One Piece is in production. in collaboration with Tomorrow Studios with Eiichiro Oda, creator of the One Piece manga, serving as executive producer. The series was first announced in July 2017 by Weekly Shōnen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano to mark the manga's 20th anniversary. One Piece made its debut in the July 22, 1997 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, and over 1,000 chapters of the manga have been published, along with 95 volumes, and it is currently in its final arc.
For now, Netflix has commissioned the production of a 10-episode season for live adaptation, with Steven Maeda (CSI: Miami, Lost) and Matt Owens serving as showrunners. Season 1 of the One Piece live-action adaptation will cover the East Blue saga of the anime and manga. With the series currently gearing up for an imminent release, let's take a look at everything we know so far about Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece.
Additional cast members from the show include Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
Oda, the author of the original manga series, has been deeply involved in creating this adaptation and is serving as an executive producer. He has been vocal about how important it is for the show to honor his vision. He wrote a letter posted along with the trailer in which he shared that "There were no compromises on this show!" He also shared in the letter that he wanted to reshoot several scenes because he "felt they weren't good enough to show the world." At the same time, he also praised the lead actor Iñaki Godoy, writing, “There were also some lines that I thought didn't look like Luffy in the role... But when I saw the scenes filmed, I said, 'It works when it's Iñaki. doing it!'”
