Saipan 2026. A film loosely based on the conflict between the Republic of Ireland coach, Mike McCarthy (Steve Coogan), and his star player, Roy Keane (Eanna Hardwicke), and Keane's subsequent departure from the Irish squad for the World Cup. To begin with, Hardwicke doesn't resemble Keane at all—she's much taller—but she does capture his arrogance. Iwájú 2024 Tv Series Review Trailer

Iwájú, which means “the future” in Yoruba, ventures into uncharted territory for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, the animated miniseries promises to delve into themes of inequality, innocence and challenges to social norms.

This innovative project is the result of a pioneering collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and pan-African comics entertainment company Kugali, led by its founders Tolu Olowofoyeku, Ziki Nelson and Hamid Ibrahim.

Creator: Ziki Nelson
Stars: Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch

Director Ziki Nelson expresses his personal connection to the project, stating: “Iwájú represents a personal dream from my childhood: to tell my story and that of my people, combining the magic and experience in Disney animation with fire and narrative authenticity of Kugali.”

Taking a bold leap into uncharted territory, Disney's Iwájú will be a six-episode animated miniseries created by Ziki Nelson, Hamid Ibrahim and Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku. Written by Adeola and Halima Hudson and directed by Ziki Nelson, this adventure marks a significant departure from the traditional Disney format.

Set in a futuristic universe reminiscent of Wakanda, Iwájú follows the journey of a young girl named Tola, voiced by Simisola Gbadamosi. Accompanied by her best friend Kole and a new lizard companion named Otin, Tola embarks on an exciting adventure through the streets of Lagos, encountering numerous challenges along the way.

What sets Iwájú apart is its miniseries format, a departure from Disney's typical feature-length format. By releasing all six episodes simultaneously on Disney+, Disney is venturing into new territory, signaling its willingness to experiment with storytelling formats.

As Disney looks to navigate a changing entertainment landscape, Iwájú stands as an exciting experiment that may pave the way for future innovations in animated storytelling.
