In episode 4 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Baelor advised Dunk to demand a trial by combat with Aerion, because if he opted for a straight trial, he would be killed not only for striking a prince but also for allegedly kidnapping Egg. Dunk accepted Baelor's proposal because he knew he could take on Aerion in a one-on-one fight, but when he demanded a trial by combat, it backfired, because Aerion demanded a trial of seven.  This meant that Dunk would have to gather six other knights and fight Aerion and his six knights. Steffon was the first person to claim he would side with Dunk. Daeron said he would fall without much resistance during the trial to make up for the fact that he had lied about Dunk kidnapping Egg. And on the day of the fight, Egg convinced Lyonel, Robyn, Hardyng, and Beesbury to fight alongside Dunk. Now, Dunk was one knight short and entered the arena assuming his six-man team would face Aerion's seven-man squad. Although this was against the rules, Dunk...

Spaceman 2024 Movie Review Trailer

“Spaceman” marks Netflix's latest foray into sci-fi storytelling, but despite its intriguing premise, the film falls short of its creative potential. Directed by Johan Renck and adapted from the novel "The Bohemian Spaceman" by Jaroslav Kalfař, the film follows the journey of Jakub Procházka, played by Adam Sandler, a Czech astronaut on a lonely space mission marked by personal and existential crises.

Sandler brings a tender vulnerability to his portrayal of Jakub, whose year-long mission coincides with the collapse of his marriage. However, the script fails to fully tap into this emotional depth, offering simplistic dialogue that often seems uninspired. Carey Mulligan's character, Lenka, fares even worse, serving as little more than a plot device to advance Jakub's narrative arc.

Director: Johan Renck
Writers: Jaroslav Kalfar, Colby Day
Stars: Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano

The heart of the film lies in the relationship between Jakub and an extraterrestrial creature called Hanuš, voiced by Paul Dano. Dano's performance breathes life into Hanuš, whose curiosity about human emotions sparks an unconventional friendship with Jakub. Their interactions provide moments of humor and poignancy, offering a refreshing contrast to the film's more mundane moments.

While Renck establishes emotional resonance toward the climax, the pacing suffers from a slow second act filled with lackluster montages and clunky exposition. The ending, while moving, feels somewhat rushed, leaving the audience yearning for more meaningful things earlier in the story.

Visually, “Spaceman” impresses with its meticulous spaceship design and striking special effects, reminiscent of the work of Christopher Nolan. However, it sometimes succumbs to Netflix's characteristic visual style, which is reminiscent of other productions from streaming services.

Ultimately, “Spaceman” falls short of its potential, delivering a visually captivating but narratively underwhelming experience. Despite strong performances and striking visuals, the film fails to fully explore its compelling premise, leaving audiences with a feeling of a missed opportunity.
