Prepare for fascinating feats and heartwarming moments as Ronja navigates the complexities of friendship, family, and the wild allure of the dark forest. Netflix has acquired Astrid Lindgren’s “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter” in the Nordic countries and other major territories.
The Swedish-language series, adapted from Lindgren's best-selling book by acclaimed writer Hans Rosenfeldt, creator of “The Bridge” and “Marcella,” and directed by Lisa James Larsson (“Victoria”), promises an unforgettable journey. “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter” tells the adventures of a young woman born into a gang of thieves in a medieval Scandinavian fortress.
As Ronja matures, she discovers that the surrounding forest harbors magic and danger. When Ronja befriends Birk, a boy from a rival gang, a fierce family feud breaks out, forcing them to flee into the woods and fend for themselves.
Led by a talented cast including Kerstin Linden, Jack Bergenholtz Henriksson, Christopher Wagelin, Krista Kosonen, Johan Ulveson and Sverrir Gudnason, the series is produced by Bonnie Skoog Feeney and Mattias Arehn (“Beartown”) of Filmlance, a Banijay company .
Co-produced with Viaplay, Film i Väst, Ahil UAB, ARD Degeto and supported by the European Union, Creative Europe and Nordisk Film & TV Fond, the series promises to captivate audiences with its captivating narrative and stunning visuals.
