Although Benjamin Franklin does not appear prominently in the renowned musical “Hamilton,” he will be the center of attention in an upcoming Apple TV+ drama starring Michael Douglas. Here's everything you need to know about this captivating portrait of the Founding Father:
The series, titled "Franklin," adapted from Stacy Schiff's book "A Great Improv: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America," focuses on a pivotal period in Franklin's life.
Star: Noah Jupe, Marc Duret, Lily Dupont
Tasked with a critical mission in the midst of the American Revolution, Franklin, played by Michael Douglas, embarks on a journey to France. His goal: to secure vital support for the French monarchy, crucial to the survival of the fledgling American republic in the midst of an intense conflict with Great Britain.
At the age of 70, Franklin, although lacking diplomatic experience, relies on his keen intellect to navigate a treacherous political landscape. He outwits British spies, deals with French informants, and manages complex relationships to forge the Franco-American alliance of 1778, a major turning point in history.
Joining Douglas in the cast are Noah Jupe as Temple, Franklin's grandson, along with Thibault de Montalembert, Ludivine Sagnier, Eddie Marsan and Theodore Pellerin as the Marquis de Lafayette.
“Franklin” will premiere on Apple TV+ on April 12 with the release of the first three episodes. Subsequent episodes will be produced weekly, leading up to the season finale on May 17.
