All's Fair 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer
BET+ has ordered its first adult animated series, “Lil Kev,” based on comedian Kevin Hart’s childhood. The half-hour series, from Hart’s Hartbeat label, is set to premiere this spring.
Hart will executive produce and also voice the title character, while Wanda Sykes will play his mother, Nancy, and Deon Cole will play Uncle Richard Jr. “Lil Kev” is set in North Philadelphia in 1993 and focuses on Hart as a 12-year-old.
As an adult-focused comedy, the streaming service said the show “takes a humorous, satirical and subversive approach to real-life issues that he experimented with with no-holds-barred, no-words-barred comedy.”
Wanda Sykes will play Kevin’s hardworking, God-fearing mother Nancy, opposite Deon Cole, who plays Uncle Richard Jr., Nancy’s formerly incarcerated, struggling and in top form younger brother.
“I’m excited to deepen the partnership between Hartbeat and BET on a project so close to my heart,” Hart said in a statement. “With comedy veterans Wanda and Deon by my side, we’re bringing to life Lil Kev, a hilarious celebration of stories inspired by my Philadelphia roots, a place that will always be home.”
Here’s the synopsis: “Set in North Philadelphia in 1993, the adult animated series “Lil Kev” follows 12-year-old Kevin Hart, whose wild imagination and unwavering optimism constantly collide with the harsh realities of his neighborhood. At the same time, his no-nonsense mother Nancy juggles night shifts as an ER nurse while waging a one-person war to keep Kev on the straight and narrow – no easy feat with his mischievous older brother Robert leading all the wrong ways, his wayward father Henry’s outrageous attempts to win Nancy back, and his ex-con uncle Richard Jr.’s questionable life advice. Through it all, Lil Kev navigates his difficult upbringing with humor, hustle, and heart, surrounded by the unforgettable characters that will propel him to comedy stardom.”
Hart and his entertainment company Hartbeat have been in business with BET on several fronts in recent years, including the 2022 revived version of “Real Husbands of Hollywood” called “More Kevin, More Problems,” as well as a new take on BET’s “Comic View” stand-up comedy franchise in 2023. Hartbeat is also developing “Moorewood Family Rules,” starring and executive producing Taraji P. Henson, with Justin Simien (“Dear White People”) directing and executive producing, for BET Studios and others.
BET Media Group Chairman and CEO Scott Mills said “Lil Kev” marked “an exciting milestone for BET+ as we continue to expand our content portfolio with bold, fresh and culturally resonant storytelling. Kevin Hart’s unique comedic voice has long been a favorite across our platforms, and we’re thrilled to bring his personal journey to life through this groundbreaking adult animated series.” With an all-star cast and authentic storytelling based on Kevin’s real-life experiences, Lil Kev is sure to captivate audiences and further cement BET+ as the home of Black storytelling in all its forms.”
Hart, Bryan Smiley, Jeff Clanagan, Mike Stein and Candice Wilson Cherry serve as executive producers for Hartbeat, which funded the development and production of the show. Tiffany Brown of Hartbeat serves as co-executive producer, while Matthew Claybrooks and Michael Price serve as executive producers and showrunners. Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico serve as executive producers for ShadowMachine, which handled animation for the series. Jason Harvey and Rose Catherine Pinkney serve as executive producers for BET+.
“We knew we wanted to develop the ‘Lil Kev’ story from the moment it was pitched to us,” said Jason Harvey, executive vice president of strategy and operations for BET+. “Adding a dynamic cast to support that narrative made the project a perfect fit for our subscribers because it allows us to better represent the multifaceted experiences of our diverse audience of comedy and animation enthusiasts.”
