Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special 2026 Tv Series Review Trailer
2026 is a monumental year for *Zillennials* everywhere—well, at least if you’re a Disney fan. If you haven’t realized it yet, it’s not just the anniversary of *Hannah Montana*, but also the anniversary of *High School Musical*! And all in the same year? Twenty years later, the nostalgia hits you like a brick the instant Miley Cyrus steps onto the scene with her blonde bangs and that shiny gold belt. Although Miley herself looks mature and elegant now, her Tennessee personality shines through instantly the moment she sets foot on the set—the very home of the Stewarts! But, almost immediately, you feel that something is missing.
That’s because most of the show’s main cast doesn’t appear in this anniversary special. Even so, I can’t complain, considering that Miley is the sole reason we had the opportunity to enjoy this special at all. Twenty years ago, when I was just a little girl myself, I had a poster of the pop star with the double life hanging on my pink and purple walls (quite telling of the era, I suppose) and I dreamed (occasionally) of living a life just like hers.
Miley herself has gone through various phases as she left her Disney Channel persona behind to embark on a fresh start in real life. Speaking on behalf of everyone born around the same time as me: we literally grew up alongside her and all the other Disney stars who kept her company (one of whom even paid us a little surprise visit). And while I must admit my disappointment with the special itself (don’t come for me—I have my reasons), I cannot deny just how much all of this meant to me (and to us).
The special opens—in the most charming way possible—with a performance of the song "Best of Both Worlds." I don’t know if it was just me, but it seemed to me that she sang it an octave lower than in the original version. Be that as it may, it was a spectacular opening, and I only wish I could have been there to witness it live. Next, Miley enters the Stewarts' house, decorated exactly as we remember it: with the lizards and the table of colorful leggings placed in their precise spots.
Watching her walk through the house truly felt like watching myself return to my own childhood home. Shortly thereafter, she is joined by Alex Cooper—famous for her podcast *Call Her Daddy*—who, it turns out, was a superfan of the series. Cooper’s involvement doesn’t make much sense to fans of the original show, but I suppose that, in essence, she is one of us; that is why it feels fitting that she is the one conducting this face-to-face interview with Hannah Montana.
This is precisely where my reservations lie. To be honest, when we first heard that an anniversary special was in the works, I was hoping for a reboot or the announcement of a tour. But, obviously, that was just wishful thinking. It’s not that I have a problem with it being an interview; it’s simply a shame that the questions seemed so superficial. I suppose that, since this is a review, I won’t give away any spoilers; nevertheless, Cyrus *does* drop some juicy scoops, ensuring that, despite everything, we still enjoy the interview.
The sad reality is that the questions lack any real depth; we don’t even get to hear any behind-the-scenes secrets or anecdotes, making the whole thing feel rather trivial—almost as if the special were designed to welcome new fans. I suppose that explains why it makes sense to have Alex—and later, Chappell Roan—appear as guests on the show. I find it interesting to note that these individuals also grew up as fans of the series. It is also absolutely hilarious to see millennials on Reddit looking completely baffled, wondering who Chappell is after watching the special.
The real fun begins when Miley invites her parents to join them—the very people who played a fundamental role in building the series, both behind and in front of the camera. With her mother, the conversation revolves around costumes, wigs, and what it meant to go from living in a small town to being where she is now. It is, without a doubt, a very tender moment. On the other hand—honestly—it came as quite a surprise to see Billy Ray Cyrus make an appearance, considering how things stood just a few years ago.
I suppose things have changed a great deal since then; the father-daughter duo appears genuinely fulfilled, and watching them attempt to recreate their secret handshake was, without question, one of the highlights for me. It couldn't have been easy going from trying to be a school cheerleader to becoming a Disney megastar, but Miley was only able to achieve it because her parents were by her side every step of the way. I won't reveal who the special guest is, but it is certainly someone completely unexpected. That moment made me grin from ear to ear—almost as if I were having a reunion myself.
Soon, the moment arrives for the show’s finale; we watch her turn off the set lights and wave goodbye—only to be met with a surprise that awaits us. If your eyes hadn't welled up during the previous performance, they undoubtedly will this time. I truly hope we get more of this—whatever *this* may be (no spoilers, just as I promised)—beyond this anniversary special. It was beautiful, meaningful, and heartwarming. After all, all good things must come to an end, and I believe this serves as a fitting conclusion to this chapter: that colossal TV show we all grew up with and loved so dearly.
Ultimately, nostalgia will never leave us, and whenever we hear "you get the limo out front," we’ll burst into song with "Best of Both Worlds"; and perhaps this will mark the start of a re-watch marathon of that tween series that stole our hearts back in the day. I can’t believe it ran for only four seasons. I wonder if Disney will take this as a sign to relaunch *Hannah Montana* with a new lead. They’ve already tried it with *High School Musical*. I give the *Hannah Montana* 20th Anniversary Special 4 out of 5 stars because—even though there were moments that felt a bit lackluster—I can’t help but appreciate the gesture, and the deeply moving way in which Miley expresses her gratitude to her fans.
