Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer 2022 Tv Show Review Trailer Cast Crew

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer finally adapts a manga from the 2000s, but the old material gets worse due to poor pacing, silly jokes, and flat animation.

Yuuhi Amamiya is a busy college student with many things on his mind, so when he is initially approached by a talking lizard, he feels it must be a product of his stress and overwork. Eventually, after many attempts to get rid of the vocalizing reptile (which is literally attached to him at all times) and after learning that he now has access to a force field type of power through a magical ring, he begins to accept the fact that he really can, for some reason, have been designated the "Lizard Knight". However, being chosen and being willing are two completely different things.

Creator: Satoshi Mizukami
Stars: KenjirĂ´ Tsuda, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Atsuko Tanaka

After facing a terrifying golem and also being forced to remember his grandfather's harsh words, Yuuhi is done with the whole "save the world" thing. But the power really isn't yours to relinquish. After learning that his neighbor Samidare is the princess that his lizard friend keeps referring to, and that the world is threatened by a giant object called "Biscuit Hammer", Yuuhi begins to feel trapped in the role. of the. Samidare is not entirely benevolent either; she hopes to defeat the Biscuit Hammer so she can destroy the world with her own hands.

Something that worried fans from the initial video and footage of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer was the animation, and those fears were justified given the first episode. The series uses still images as much as possible, which makes the show feel more like a motion comic than a true anime at times. This particularly cheap and not particularly dynamic form of animation was also seen in Netflix's adaptation of The Way of the Househusband, which was also highly criticized. Given how static and lifeless the basic conversational scenes are, anything beyond that seems especially atrocious.

This can be seen in the action sequences in particular, which take these stills to an even duller extreme. While these stills are likely meant to evoke comedy, the fact that they're the only form of action in the series makes them pretty embarrassing. Hardly anything moves, even when needed to convey dynamism or tension, completely taking the stakes out of a series that is literally about the end of the world.

Given that the series was produced by studio Naz, whose mostly unremarkable storyline involves odd jobs for long-forgotten shows like Idolish7, producing amateur hours makes sense. A more illustrious studio like Madhouse or MAPPA might have solved these particular problems, but perhaps not all of them. After all, the action isn't the only thing that fails to be exciting, with stale elements made worse by how uninteresting the show is to viewers, and how uninterested it seems to be in its own content.
