Shrinking 2023 Tv Series Review Trailer Cast Crew

It took a long time for Harrison Ford to land a major role on TV, and in a preview of the upcoming Apple TV+ series "Shrinking," he doesn't seem too happy about it. In the minute-long clip, featuring the cast of the upcoming sitcom, a springboard, and no dialogue, Ford shoots his co-star Jason Segel a disappointed look before walking off.

Therapists in film and television, like doctors and other medical professionals, are often treated as narrative devices in stories rather than characters with their own thoughts, emotions, and desires. That's because this is exactly how many ordinary people view their therapists or psychologists, as patients seek their advice and answers to any problems they may have. It is easy to forget that, outside of their professional lives treating people with complex trauma and mental health issues, these medical professionals are people too, and even they may have their own opinions and biases that they keep to themselves when treating a patient. This raises two questions that might arise for someone seeking therapy: what is this therapist really thinking, and what would happen if they said what they are really thinking?

Stars: Harrison Ford, Jason Segel, Christa Miller

Those are questions that the upcoming comedy series Shrinking (2023) will attempt to answer. Created by Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) writer and star Jason Segel and Ted Lasso (2020-) writers Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, the ten-episode comedy series follows Segel himself as a therapist currently dealing with his own mental health challenge and personal trauma. that he has decided to give his patients a more direct approach to psychiatric care. Essentially, what that means is that Segel's character is taking a page from Dr. Ben Sobel's (Billy Crystal) book from Analyze This (1999) and telling his patients his own personal opinions rather than trying to take a different approach. educational objective. It's a bold strategy with a long list of pros and cons, and only time will tell if this new strategy is a productive experiment or a destructive disaster.

It's a perfectly mystified reaction from the Star Wars legend and Indiana Jones, setting up an intriguing new series from the creators of "Ted Lasso." In addition to the springboard clip and some first-look images (all below), the streamer also revealed a January 27 release date. The preview shows Segel and the series' supporting cast jumping on a springboard between the tagline: "Sometimes you have to break to have a breakthrough."

Don't let the title fool you: Ford isn't going short, but instead will be playing a therapist, more like a psychiatrist, opposite Segel. Segel's character is a grieving therapist who, ignoring his own training and ethics, begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks, causing major changes in their lives. Ford plays another doctor described as a "blue collar psychiatrist" who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's, forcing him out of his physical and emotional comfort zone as he must deal with family and friends separated from him.

"Ted Lasso" co-creator Bill Lawrence created "Shrinking" with Segel and "Ted Lasso" star Brett Goldstein. All three are executive producers along with Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. The series also stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell.

The new series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence has an overall deal, as well as Lawrence's Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, and Goldstein wrote the first episode, which was directed by Ponsoldt.

“Shrinking” is a ten-episode sitcom, and Apple will release the first two episodes on January 27 followed by a new episode every Friday.

“Shrinking” isn't Ford's only twist on the small screen. He also stars opposite Helen Mirren in the upcoming "Yellowstone" prequel series called "1923," which also dropped its first trailer over the weekend.
