Kings of Jo'burg Tv Series Review Trailer Cast Crew

With just a couple of weeks to go until its return, Netflix has released the official trailer for its South African criminal underworld series, Kings of Jo'burg. Directed by Zolisa Xaluva, who plays Mogomotsi "Mo" Masirethe, the trailer shows that despite the invasion of rival families and the uncertainty of the supernatural, the Masire family still holds Johannesburg in their iron grip.

“Kings of Jo’burg” follows the Masire brothers, Simon aka Si (played by Shona Ferguson) and Mogomosti aka Mo (played by Zolisa Xaluva), who rule the criminal underworld of Johannesburg. The series begins with Mo's release from prison. He returns home and realizes that a lot has changed. His ex-wife Angela (Buhle Samuels) and his son Tlotlo (TK Sebothoma) have a new family, so to speak. Tlotlo is anything but happy to see him. Mo wants to start from scratch earning money through legitimate means and learns that he has a daughter, Neo, who goes with his maternal grandmother. This sudden reunion with his estranged daughter and an unexpected turn of events lead Mo back to his former way of life.

Creator: Shona Ferguson
Stars: Shona Ferguson, Zolisa Xaluva, Sello Sebotsane

He also finds a new partner and she realizes that his family is rich and he works for the family business, but she does not reveal what his family business consists of. Meanwhile, there's the ex-girlfriend who wants the pound of meat from her. If she also has her secrets and literally fights her own demons.

The six-part series is promising at first. Pretty women, fancy cars, beautiful houses, "Kings of Jo'burg" has them all, but it lacks the one thing it takes to build a tuning-in fan base, season after season; that's a good story. The plot is underdeveloped, leading to too many half-baked scenes. Bad storytelling is also characterized by some illogical actions. For example, Mo takes Neo from her grandmother without a fight, with no money in his pocket, and no plan for the girl's future. From the very first episode, the teleplay injects unmotivated conflict, so you end up with a crime series about gunmen killing wanton.

There is no room for error. There's no room for weakness because the jackals are running around and that's evident from the very beginning of the trailer. The city of Johannesburg is run by the Masire family, led by his two brothers, Simon "Vader" Masire and Mo. Simon was the dreaded "big dog" of the shipyard, sadly for his family, he is no more and Mo acknowledges that he did not is his brother. His enemies have smelled this uncertainty and declared, "Jozi has no king" while adding "Mo is weak." The Masires' hold on the city is about to be fiercely challenged.

While there is an increasingly imminent threat of war, there is still a need for those who have lost loved ones to grieve and grieve in a proper way. If not, there will be a blurring of the lines between seeking justice and revenge. Within that distorted realm, the relationships that signify the world are swept away by the tidal wave of unresolved emotions. However, against this backdrop, with the police snooping around, a fierce battle ensues to enthrone or, in Mo's case, consecrate the domain of him as the "king of Jo'burg". In addition to the layers of criminal conflict and emotional anguish, the trailer promises yet another layer will be added to this new season. Mo's ascension to the seat of power in her family means that she has inherited new enemies, both natural and supernatural, as the Masires seek to show all who run the City of Gold.

Kings of Jo'burg is the brainchild of Ferguson, who passed away on July 30, 2021 and also played Simon 'Vader' on the series. The cast of the series includes some of South Africa's best, including Sello Sebotsane as Stan Mazibuko, Tsholofelo Matshaba as Jazmine Gumede, Connie Ferguson as Masire Mermaid, Cindy Mahlangu as Phumzi, Tk Sebothoma as Tlotlo Masire, Enyinna Nwigwe as Aliko Bajo, among others. much others. The series is produced by Ferguson Films and Samad Davis Production.

Kings of Jo'burg returns to Netflix on January 27, 2023.
