Netflix has released a trailer for the new sci-fi anime, Moonrise, which shows the main character Jack in action against creatures that serve as antagonists in the Earth vs. Moon conflict. Although no firm release date has been provided for the anime series yet, Moonrise will stream on Netflix sometime in 2024.
Announced on Netflix Tudum 2022, Moonrise is written by novelist Tou Ubukata, best known for his excellent work on Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass 2, and Psycho-Pass 3. Beloved artist Hiromu Akawara, who previously worked on the hit series from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, will also join the show as a character designer.
Ubukata wrote and published a prologue novel in December 2018. Netflix describes Moonrise as "a fateful tale of resistance forces on the moon challenging the peaceful inhabitants of Earth to battle." The trailer introduces the two main characters, Jack and Al, while Kawasaki's music accompanies the action-packed scenes.
In addition to Ubukata and Arakawa, Ayumi Yamada will also be in charge of character design. Yamada served as animation director for a few episodes of Attack on Titan and Mob Psycho 100. Ryo Kawasaki, who previously worked on To Your Eternity and Romantic Killer, will join the team as composer.

All action and scenery in the unexplored parts of the Moon will be illustrated using a type of innovative animation that has never been seen before. Moonrise is the story of Jack, who set out to take revenge on the Moon Rebels who killed his family. He will travel to the moon as an army researcher to bring peace to both lifelines. Moonrise will be available exclusively on Netflix in 2024.
