 The Gold on BBC1 and Paramount Plus stars Jack Lowden, Hugh Bonneville, Dominic Cooper and Charlotte Spencer in a drama about the infamous 1983 Brink's Mat heist.


The Gold on BBC1 tells the real life story of the gang who robbed the Brink's Mat security deposit near Heathrow and accidentally stumbled upon £26 million worth of gold bars.

Starring Hugh Bonneville, Jack Lowden, Dominic Cooper, Emun Elliott, Charlotte Spencer and Tom Cullen, the six-part drama follows the events of November 26, 1983, when six gunmen inadvertently carried out the largest robbery in history. The story also shows the after-effects of this theft that lasted for decades. The holdup was a crime that had huge ramifications in London itself, including much of the Docklands developments in the 1980s, and left controversy and murder in its wake.


The Gold is a six-part true crime drama beginning Sunday, February 12 at 9:00 p.m. m. and will air weekly on BBC1 in the UK and also as a BBCiPlayer box set. The Gold will also be shown on Paramount Plus in the US later in 2023.


The Gold is based on extensive research and interviews with some of those involved, The Gold tells the story of the infamous Brink's-Mat robbery. On 26 November 1983, six armed robbers set off to carry out what was supposed to be "a typical Old Kent Road armed robbery".


However, when they broke into the Brink's-Mat safe deposit box near Heathrow airport, they found £26 million worth of gold bars. The thieves gained access to the warehouse, thanks to a security guard who was involved in the crime, then threw gasoline at the staff inside and threatened them with a lit match if they did not reveal the vault's combination numbers.


The robbery became a seminal event in British criminal history and its legacy spread far and wide. The disposal of gold bullion led to the birth of large-scale international money laundering, and illegal profits fueled the London Dockland property boom. He united blue and white collar criminals and set off a chain of events that led to the murder.
