Squared Love Everlasting 2023 Movie Review Trailer

I never thought I'd find myself sitting down watching another one of these, but here we are. Squared Love, the Polish-language Netflix original, probably did decent enough to warrant a sequel, but a trilogy? Did we really need this threequel? Short answer: no way! As if the first film wasn't already replete with tropes and clichés, the second and third parts divert attention from the main couple and jump right into new characters who become weeds in Monika and Stefan's field of love.

The third film in the franchise picks up immediately after the end of Squared Love All Over Again. It starts off as finally showing us how Stefan and Monika need time to get to know each other and possibly what it would be like for them to have a family soon, but quickly turns to something else. It's a story as old as time: a jealous couple, an ex introducing himself, and a son to a man he had no idea existed.

Director: Filip Zylber
Writers: Natalia Matuszek, Wiktor Piatkowski
Stars: Miroslaw Baka, Mateusz Banasiuk, Adrianna Chlebicka

The chemistry between Monika and Stefan is already low in the depths of the sea, where unknown creatures prey on it, but extending it to a third film is really remarkably bold. If the sequel that came out this year wasn't proof enough that this duo wasn't grabbing attention, they could have at least tried to push some romance their way. Or maybe it's because they're not so in love with each other that the creators have to add other obstacles in their lives to remind them that there is some love in there. Squared Love Everlasting is boring, tedious, and unromantic. It's not even funny enough to call it a romantic comedy. It's just a family drama with no direction.

What's even more fascinating is how Monika's character arc has progressed throughout the films thus far. She's a schoolteacher who also worked as a model (spoiler alert for the first two movies), then fell in love with her and is caught living a double life. She then decided to continue teaching, but did one last job as a model because it was a children's music show. This "Hannah Montana" life isn't really for everyone, but in a movie like Squared Love, it was totally fine if Monika stuck to doing both concerts and continued to be successful. Instead, she goes back to her roots, she gets lost again and then gets distracted by the idea of having a family.

Stefan, on the other hand, has literally no personality and nothing to do in this entire movie except want to be a father. In a romantic movie, it is important that we get to know the main characters in order to feel some kind of connection with them and then seek their happiness. Instead, here I couldn't care less if Monika left him for someone else or vice versa. At least in the first two movies, there was some believability to Stefan's character because he lost his job, his money and his "life", but then he ended up finding love with Monika (I make him sound a lot more romantic than usual). what was it). . Squared Love Everlasting has no love, much less eternal love, and I'm still not sure why it's called Squared Love. There is not a single moment in this movie that makes you smile or laugh because everything is so predictable and undignified. The only reason I sat through the entire process was to write this review.

Aside from the main plot of the movie, which on its own seems like a half-baked romantic cliché, there are a ton of little plot lines that are mostly inserted as filler and seem very unnecessary. This is the third installment; By now these two characters should be head over heels in love, not fighting each other and struggling to get along. These are clear signs that they should not be like this. However, apparently it's not just the couple who don't get the memo; it's the whole cast.

Really, this movie might have been better for me if it had been labeled a drama, because then I wouldn't be bothering with the same things that make it more horrible by the second. Do the filmmakers really think that a compelling cast and some old tropes will keep us watching these movies? Because there's really nothing to be gained from this film, not even entertainment, which is what it's intended for. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but it's unfortunate that the bar for romance movies is already so low, and then we have movies that really tarnish the name of the genre.

Monika and Stefan are the least interesting lead couple I've seen in a long time, and that's what makes this whole experience even worse. By the end of the movie, no problem is resolved and everything from start to finish is predictable. The new hippie character is another cliché and brings nothing special. The only interesting character in the movie, which is a girl, has barely any lines, and when she says something interesting, she gets fired from it. If I had to rank the trilogy from best to worst, Squared Love Everlasting would be last. The series just deteriorates in every possible way as the movies go on. The first one, which on its own was bad enough, has to be the best of all.
