The Eyes of Ghana 2026 Movie Review Trailer
Good Night World is a Japanese science fiction anime series based on the manga of the same name by Uru Okabe (published on MangaONE by Shogakukan). Katsuya Kikuchi directs and the script is adapted by Michiko Yokote. There are 12 episodes in total with a duration of between 25 and 30 minutes.
The cast of voice actors includes Daisuke Hirose as Ichi/Taichiro Arima, Nobunaga Shimazaki as AAAAA/Asuma Arima, Akio Otsuka as Shiro/Kojiro Arima, Aya Endo as May/Miyabi Arima, Aoi Yuki as Pico, Ryohei Kimura as Leon, Hiroki Nanami. as Sasumata, Kenjiro Tsuda as Shigatera, Rie Takahashi as Hana Kamuro and Inori Minase as Aya Arima.
The anime opens within the game world Planet, where two players chasing a red dragon encounter the infamous Ichi. Using his sword, he kills the dragon in a second and wins the game's reward. Furious that someone else steals their reward, they continue home and meet the powerful Akabane family: Shiro, AAAAA, May and Ichi. These players decided to settle in Twilight Hill and live as a gaming family while completing other quests. Their only rule is to never ask about their real-life identities or try to meet up outside of the game.
Although they don't know it, these four players are actually a broken and dysfunctional family in real life. Ichi/Taichiro is a closed-in older brother, who prefers to live and die while playing. AAAAA / Asuma is a high-achieving younger brother who wants to connect with his older brother but finds solace in gaming. Shiro/Kojiro Arima is a father who is not respected by his own children due to his obsessive and workaholic personality, which caused a tragedy that they will not be able to forget. May/Miyabi is a mother who neglects her own home since she lost her daughter in an accident and instead immerses herself in the game.
The members of the Arima family cannot communicate with each other honestly and choose to ignore the shitty reality they are living in and start over in the game. They become the version of themselves that they cannot be in real life and live vicariously through it. Kojiro is like a loving father figure, Miyabi is always doing some housework and taking care of the Akabane family, Asuma is free to act however he wants without the pressure of being the best or pleasing his family, and Taichiro is like the best fighter around. they want. Like them, most players hate their reality, but find respite and companionship while playing Planet.
But being a game, you can't miss the battles against monsters, the confrontations with other guilds, and the machinations surrounding “Black Bird,” the game's ultimate goal. Everyone wants to catch the "blackbird of happiness" that will give them a reward of 300 million, not as in-game currency but in the real world. However, no one knows where to find it, except a group of pirates who believe the bird could be in Twilight Hill. And the prediction turns out to be true, but little did they know that encountering the blackbird could blur the line between the game and real life, transcending cyberspace.
The story reflects how a simple game becomes a home for so many people who feel lost in real life. It gives them an outlet to express their repressive emotions and become a character that is much more true to their personality or what they aspire to be. Science fiction elements are added to the emotional aspect of dysfunctional people, since it has an online game as a backdrop. It cleverly inserts itself into the ongoing debate between AI and humans by introducing characters that represent it.
If you've ever thought about what would happen if man-made technology or the Internet completely consumed the humans in your world, then Good Night World brings that imagination to your screen. As I watched, I could only think that it was a matter of time before something similar fell upon our world. There's already been plenty of content about evil robots taking over the world, but it goes a step further and adds nuances of AI and the inconspicuous internet that we don't fully understand.
Overall, on a personal level, I found the Netflix anime series extremely entertaining and touched on several topics that were quite related to real-life issues. Also, considering I don't watch anime avidly. There's an emotional story, sci-fi/fantasy elements, and a good amount of action too, for those who enjoy it. I would definitely recommend it as a good option for binge watching.
