This independent film, directed by Vibeke Muasya, will release on October 6 on Regal Cinemas, AMC Cinemas and other chains. It's a faith-filled, country western, prison love story told during the COVID pandemic.
“Shelter in Solitude” tells the story of Jackson (Peter Macon), a death row prisoner with 10 days to live, and his unconventional relationship with Val, a failed country singer turned prison guard.
Val's touching relationship with Jackson is touching and noteworthy. Robert Patrick is unforgettable as Dwayne, Val's brother, who plays the prison warden.
Overall, “Shelter in Solitude” is a solid film from start to finish. Strong performances from the entire cast led by Siobhan Fallon Hogan give the film its beating heart.
Her performance as Val is controlled, effervescent and with the same conviction as that of Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”) and Jessica Lange (“Sweet Dreams”).
The script is rich in character development. It truly is an American story of faith, hope, redemption and friendship. “Shelter in Solitude,” which gets 4.5 out of 5 stars, is worth checking out.
