Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children 2024 Movie Review Trailer

This year's Japanese Film Festival opened with an anime of the popular Final Fantasy series. No, not that US atrocity that came out almost 5 years ago: the US likes to remake Asian movies, but they add their own 2 cents to the classics until they become almost unrecognizable, apart from their name. Take Godzilla for example, that American Godzilla is NOT Godzilla. He doesn't look, move or act like the big lizard.

If I remember correctly, this movie was recently released on DVD here and follows the events after those that occurred in the computer game. During school days, many classmates spent their time playing games and having fun discussing tactics.

Directors: Tetsuya Nomura, Takeshi Nozue
Writers: Kazushige Nojima, Brian Gray, Yoshinori Kitase
Stars: Takahiro Sakurai, Ayumi Ito, Shôtarô Morikubo

My limited knowledge of the game and the characters was only about the main character Cloud, with his HUGE sword-like weapon, which can be combined and combined some more to increase the size and functionality of him.

Given its rich and heavy story, watching this film without any prior knowledge will leave you with two options: be totally confused about the plot, as it contains many references that cannot be covered in less than two hours, or forget about them and concentrate. in what it is. Currently is the present, and admire the aesthetics of the graphics.

In a nutshell, the plot contained elements such as strange viruses, the recluse hero, a multinational corporation that plunders the earth for minerals to generate energy, and those who are against some non-environmentally friendly ways of making profits, the super soldiers and their search for a mystical "mother", and moments that parallel Harry Potter and sequences involving his Voldermort.

While the opening credits allowed you to enjoy the excellent songs featured on the soundtrack and the endless display of Cloud and his custom bike, credit must be given to the attempts to bring the audience up to speed with a quick recap of what was happening. It had happened in the games.

So if you don't understand, don't worry, you can click on this link, which will provide you with the necessary background knowledge to enjoy this movie, the only one that will be repeated, scheduled for next Tuesday night.

Despite its slow introduction and confusing plot, you can opt for the second way to appreciate the film, and that is the graphics. I'm not going to quibble, they are beautifully rendered. Character movement is extremely fluid, and there are enough moments during battles that are filled with tension, with things left open more often than not ending in deciding who will emerge victorious. However, while the action is slick, they're too fast-paced, and if you blink you'll probably miss the combo executions the characters inflict on each other. Slowing down would mean giving up rhythm, but keeping it as it is, well, it depends on the mind's ability to decode images seen by the eye in record time.

Continuing with the theme of friendship, this film has its share of exciting moments where camaraderie comes to life. However, I would still bet on the fact that only true fans will come to enjoy this movie as it is mainly made for them.
