Red Right Hand 2024 Movie Review Trailer

The latest crime thriller from filmmaker brothers Eshom and Ian Helms (known for “Small Town Crime” and “Fatman”) is a nostalgic nod to '70s exploitation films, so much so that it could easily include American International Pictures at the top of their credits. . Starring Orlando Bloom, who adopts a tough Southern accent, “Red Right Hand” breaks no new ground in the well-worn genre. However, it offers plenty of bloody action and shootouts to satisfy fans, who are more likely to see it on VOD than at drive-ins.

Bloom plays Cash, the main character whose rugged masculinity is established early on with shirtless push-ups and pull-ups. Despite his tough exterior, Cash is portrayed as a decent man, still grieving the loss of his sister and caring for his troubled brother-in-law Finney (played with surprising depth by Scott Haze) and his resilient niece Savannah (played by Chapel Oaks). and Will Trent). Cash's compassionate nature is evident when he helps a struggling foal during birth.

Stars: Orlando Bloom, Andie MacDowell, Garret Dillahunt

However, Cash has a dark past as an enforcer for local crime boss Big Cat (played by Andie MacDowell), earning him the titular right-hand man scarred from a burning ritual depicted in flashbacks. Big Cat, resentful of Cash's departure, forces him to return to his service when his family's safety is threatened.

As Cash becomes entangled once again in Big Cat's world, the film turns into a series of violent confrontations, including a deadly drug deal gone wrong. MacDowell's portrayal of the ruthless villain falls short, despite his talent, leaving a void in the film. While Bloom shines as the stoic hero seeking redemption, the slow pacing and lackluster dialogue detract from the film's overall impact.

Despite its flaws, “Red Right Hand” delivers on its promise of gritty action and tension, fueled by Bloom's solid performance. However, it ultimately falls short of its potential due to errors in casting and execution.
