With a massive audience tuning in after last year's Super Bowl that brought more than 115 million viewers to Fox, networks have the opportunity to boost existing hits or introduce new shows in the coveted post-game slot.
This year, CBS opts for the latter, presenting the series premiere of “Tracker,” a show that embodies convenient television. Based on the novel "The Never Game" by Jeffery Deaver, "Tracker" follows Colter Shaw, played by Justin Hartley, a tough antihero with a heart of gold. The show features a classic “case of the week” formula reminiscent of timeless hits like “The Fugitive” and modern favorites like “Poker Face.”
Colter, who lives in his Airstream trailer towed by a sleek GMC pickup truck, travels the country as a tracker, helping find missing people in exchange for cash rewards. In the series premiere, he addresses the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy, delving into his own story as he confronts a mysterious pursuer.
Despite his solitary travels, Colter relies on a remote support team, including Velma and his wife Teddi, played by Abby McEnany and Robin Weigert, respectively, along with tech genius Bobby (Eric Graise) and lawyer Reenie (Fiona Rene). Together, they help Colter on his missions, adding depth to the narrative.
As each episode presents a new task for Colter, “Tracker” promises a combination of episodic satisfaction and general intrigue, making it suitable for both loyal viewers and casual visitors. Set after the Super Bowl, the show is poised to capture a massive audience and potentially become CBS' next big hit.
