Saipan 2026 Movie Review Trailer

Saipan 2026. A film loosely based on the conflict between the Republic of Ireland coach, Mike McCarthy (Steve Coogan), and his star player, Roy Keane (Eanna Hardwicke), and Keane's subsequent departure from the Irish squad for the World Cup. To begin with, Hardwicke doesn't resemble Keane at all—she's much taller—but she does capture his arrogance. Coogan isn't an exact copy either, but she does capture his seemingly chaotic approach to player management. Directors: Lisa Barros D'Sa, Glenn Leyburn Writer:: Paul Fraser Stars: Éanna Hardwicke, Steve Coogan, Peter McDonald What I felt while watching the film was the disastrous state of Irish planning. That was the problem: Keane, of Manchester United fame, expected more. I watched The Damned United last week, which deals with the rivalry between Brian Clough and Don Revie. It's tense, funny, and genuinely interesting, but this isn't. It's okay, and it plays on Irish stereotypes. The best part for me was hea...

Abigail 2024 Movie Review Trailer

The premise is simple but attractive. A group of criminals kidnaps a girl who is the daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Staying with this girl as they prepare to collect the ransom from her father, they eventually discover that this little girl has a strong appeal for her and they must come together if they hope to survive the night together.

Team Radio Silence has already established itself as one of the most promising horror collectives of recent times. Their work on the V/H/S franchise, Ready Or Not, and the last two SCREAM films have proven that they are a capable and reliable directing team. So with this latest film, the question remained: would they keep their winning streak going with this one?

Directors: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett
Writers: Guy Busick, Stephen Shields
Stars: Kathryn Newton, Giancarlo Esposito, Dan Stevens

Fortunately, this movie is one and a half wonders. This team has produced what I would say is their best film since Ready Or Not. The action takes a beat as the film develops its central characters and gives us reasons to know them beyond their Rat Pack-inspired names. However, when the blood starts flowing, this movie takes off and flies with absolute enthusiasm! The comedy comes through A LOT here, and the actual action and gore sequences deliver in spades!

The star cast excels at this. Melissa Barrera, reuniting with Team Radio Silence after the SCREAM films, shines as the central protagonist. We feel for her and why she does what she does, especially when we know her past.

Dan Stevens is a foul-mouthed scene-stealer in this, and Kathryn Newton has several of her own moments of her own here. Giancarlo Esposito and the late Angus Cloud do equally well in smaller roles. The highlight, however, is Alisha Weir as the titular vampire. She brings it out in every scene she appears in and really makes the whole experience worth it.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this movie. Check it out with a group of friends when you can, as this movie is best watched in a crowd. This review comes from the world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans.
