Happy Face 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
In the previous episode of Happy Face, Melissa finally found the murder weapon used to kill Heather. Before that, she learned that it was her father who leaked the news of her abortion, so she went to see him in prison. She was fed up with Keith's psychopathic tendencies and no longer wanted to waste time trying to figure out his motives and intentions. Melissa and Ivy breathed a sigh of relief after finding the murder weapon, believing they could soon close the case and prove Elijah's innocence. But they had no idea it wouldn't be an easy road. Melissa returned home after finding the wrench and felt strangely unsafe, something she'd never experienced before. She felt like she'd missed out on so much, completely unaware of what was going on in her children's lives. She noticed her daughter had new sneakers; she was talking to a boy Melissa had never heard of. Additionally, Melissa found the pizza cutter she and Ben had been trying to find in their son's bag...

In the Lost Lands 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
In the Lost Lands director Paul W. S. Anderson reveals how George R. R. Martin reacted to an advance screening. Based on Martin's short story of the same name, the fantasy film follows a sorceress who travels to a realm known as the Lost Lands to gain the magical ability to turn into a werewolf in order to free her people. Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista lead the cast of In the Lost Lands as Grey Alys and Boyce, respectively, and the first trailer has teased an action-packed ride for the two actors. In a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Anderson shares that he's now shown In the Lost Lands to Martin and the pressure was on. According to the director, Martin ended up having very kind things to say about the film, including admitting that it "captured her voice" better than any other adaptation of her work. Director: Paul W.S. Anderson Writers: Constantin Werner, Paul W.S. Anderson, George R.R. Martin Stars: Milla Jovovich, Dave Bautista, Arly Jov...

There's Still Tomorrow 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Italian actress and singer Paola Cortellesi has been breaking hearts and box office records on her home turf with this directorial debut. It’s a rich, even outrageously sentimental, working-class drama of postwar Rome, a tale of domestic abuse whose heroine ultimately escapes misogyny and cruelty through a piece of narrative sleight of hand that verges on magical neorealism, played with unabashed theatrical flair and beautifully composed in luminous monochrome. The film pays homage to the early films of De Sica and Fellini, and Cortellesi’s own performance is consciously in the spirit of such cinema divas as Anna Magnani, Sophia Loren and Giulietta Masina. The scene is set in Rome just after the end of World War II, when American soldiers were a presence on the streets and Italian women had just gained the right to vote — though exercising it under the sinister gaze of the film’s misogynistic men is another matter. Cortellesi plays Delia, a woman who is regularly beaten by her bru...

Night of the Zoopocalypse 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro’s computer-animated family film “Night of the Zoopocalypse” will make its market premiere at this year’s AFM, with global representation from Anton and Charades. Viva Pictures is handling distribution in the U.S. and will release the film on March 7, 2025. Elevation Pictures will release the film next year in Canada, and Apollo Films will release it in France. Directors: Ricardo Curtis, Rodrigo Perez-Castro Writers:  Steven Hoban, James Kee Stars: David Harbour, Bryn McAuley, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee In this incandescent family horror-comedy, a meteor unleashes an alien virus that transforms the animals at the Colepepper Zoo into slavering zombie mutants. Bearing all the hallmarks of the zombie genre, “Zoopocalypse” is expertly animated and features crisp, completely original character designs. The artists working on the film use clever lighting and the fog associated with low-budget horror films to elevate the film’s aesthetic far beyond tra...

Queen of the Ring 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Opening the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the Ash Avildsen-directed drama tells the story of Mildred Burke, the first female athlete in history to earn a million dollars. Wrestling movies are all the rage. Last year saw the release of the excellent, if unfairly overlooked, The Iron Claw, about the ill-fated Von Erich brothers. Now comes Ash Avildsen’s entertainingly dated biopic about Mildred Burke. If you don’t know who Burke is (and the vast majority probably don’t), this film aims to correct that. Burke, a pioneer of the sport who became the first female athlete in history to earn a million dollars, was a three-time women’s world champion between the 1930s and 1950s, a time when women’s wrestling wasn’t even legal in most of the country. Her story deserves to be told, and Queen of the Ring, which served as the opening film for the 39th annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, largely does it justice. Director: Ash Avildsen Writers: Ash Avildsen, Jeff L...

Mickey 17 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Korean director Bong Joon Ho's third English-language film recycles the dark style and direct satire of "Snowpiercer" and "Okja." While two Mickeys may be better than one, when you get to seven or eight (the idea in Edward Ashton's sci-fi novel "Mickey7"), or a number as unwieldy as 18 (the inflated figure in Bong Joon Ho's film adaptation), the prospect of an endless supply of gaping Robert Pattinson clones really starts to get tiring. The director of "Snowpiercer" returns to familiar territory with "Mickey 17," a screwball sci-fi satire set in a bleak future where Earth is no longer habitable, other planets must be colonized and the success of a four-year mission to the ice planet Niflheim hinges on disposable human copies called Expendables. Director: Bong Joon Ho Writers: Bong Joon Ho, Edward Ashton Stars: Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Michael Monroe Pattinson has traveled through deep space before, such as in Claire D...

Mayfair Witches 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Image
Since acquiring the rights to the late Anne Rice’s catalog of gothic horror literature in 2020, AMC has been hard at work developing what they’ve dubbed the “Immortal Universe,” an interconnected franchise based on Rice’s works and characters that spans across multiple TV shows. The first, Interview with the Vampire, premiered in 2022 and has since received massive critical and audience acclaim across its two seasons; 2023’s Mayfair Witches, which further fleshed out the on-screen world, tells the story of the titular, magic-wielding family and the demon linked to them over the centuries. There’s even more of the Immortal Universe set to premiere sometime this year, now that AMC has greenlit a series about the Talamasca, the mysterious organization tasked with overseeing all things supernatural (and intervening when necessary). However, while Interview with the Vampire set the bar high from the start with its tumultuous and complex depiction of the eternal beings at its center, Th...

Despicable Me 4 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
English“Despicable Me.” I have a vague memory of dipping in and out of the first one, but other than that, the franchise has completely passed me by. I did a quick Google search to catch up before diving headlong into “Despicable Me 4,” and was shocked to discover that there are at least five films in the “Despicable Me” universe. How on earth, I thought, could there possibly be enough content for another film in the series? I did, however, find myself standing in line at the theater on a cloudy Saturday morning, along with several sleepy-looking parents and overly loud kids, coffee in hand, wondering how exactly I ended up there, but, ready to go nonetheless. And, moviegoers, let me tell you, I had a blast. Granted, it wasn’t the movie of the year, and I won’t be rushing back to see it for a long time. But “Despicable Me 4” offered a light sense of relief that was surprisingly welcome after a busy, stressful work week. Directors: Chris Renaud, Patrick Delage Writers: Mike White, Ken D...

Toxic Town 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
Jack Thorne writes the kind of meaningful, worthwhile dramas you definitely (no, seriously) plan to watch… but maybe not tonight. Best Interests of 2023, about a distraught mother battling NHS doctors who decide to allow her seriously ill teenage daughter to die, was warm, miraculously funny and as gripping as a thriller can get. It was also so traumatising that it could make the viewer feel as if they were in actual physical pain. Before that, there was The Accident, whose matter-of-fact title only hinted at the harrowing subject matter: the series dealt with the aftermath of an explosion at a construction site in Wales that killed eight children. Toxic Town (Thursday 27 February, Netflix) – Thorne’s new four-part series – could be considered a companion piece to The Accident: it’s also about a deadly construction site and negligent financiers. The difference is that this one actually happened. You may never have heard of the Corby toxic waste case of 2009, but it was a legal mil...

House of David 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
Stephen Lang is one of religious history’s most iconic prophets during one of its most turbulent periods in House of David. Lang, best known for his work on the Don’t Breathe and Avatar franchises, has explored the historical genre in the past, from the well-received Civil War epic Gettysburg and its prequel Gods and Generals to the political thriller The Gandhi Murder. With the Prime Video show, however, he marks his first major foray into faith-based storytelling, teaming up with the creative team of Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, whose previous hits include American Underdog and Ordinary Angels. House of David is set in B.C. Israel and chronicles multiple stories that will eventually intersect thanks to David, the young biblical figure who, after slaying the Philistine giant Goliath, would eventually become one of the most notable kings in Israel’s history. Lang stars in the show as Samuel, the renowned prophet who, under God’s guidance, takes power away from the proud King Saul and sets o...

Running Point 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
Kate Hudson stars in a new comedy on Netflix, and the Oscars air Sunday night. The series is inspired by the life of Jeanie Buss, the real-life owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, and delves into themes such as family dynamics, personal growth and the challenges of leading a professional sports team. Hudson's character deals with complex relationships, athlete egos and her past, all while striving to return the team to its former glory. Creators: David Stassen, Ike Barinholtz, Mindy Kaling Stars: Kate Hudson, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur Mindy Kaling, known for her work on The Sex Lives of College Girls, is the creator and executive producer of the series. In developing Running Point, Kaling sought to combine elements of humor and drama, drawing inspiration from the real-life dynamics of the Buss family. Brothers After War 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
BROTHERS AT WAR is an interesting documentary with a dramatic plot about filmmaker Jake Rademacher. Jake travels to Iraq to find out why his brother Isaac and brother Joe are fighting. Surprisingly, he gets caught up in four combat units and experiences the boredom and horrors of war. He also experiences the appreciation of the Iraqi people and his eyes are opened to the film's message: that freedom is not free. There is much to praise in this film. It doesn't take a very pro-Iraqi war stance, but it allows Jake's interactions with the soldiers and Iraqis to build the case for US involvement. Jake starts out cynical and distant from his brothers, but goes through a tremendous character arc that leads to empathy and understanding. This is the kind of film we can't help but recommend for young and older adults. There is some bloody violence and shots of dead bodies, but it is very minimal. However, what pushes the film into the extreme caution category is the abundance o...

My Dead Friend Zoe 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Image
The solid, well-acted debut from writer-director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, produced by Travis Kelce, serves as a heartfelt call to audiences to support returning soldiers. “I’ve lost more men here than I did in Iraq,” a veteran testifies during one of the many group therapy sessions featured in “My Dead Friend Zoe,” Kyle Hausmann-Stokes’ moving look at mental health among former military members. Two decades of life experience and personal loss led the filmmaker to this project, which was inspired by the deaths of friends he served with during his five-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army. To be clear, most of the film is spent avoiding the kind of support veterans need, which is sort of the filmmaker’s point. Director: Kyle Hausmann-Stokes Writers: Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, Cherish Chen, A.J. Bermudez Stars: Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris Its main character, U.S. Army veteran Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), is haunted by the death of her fellow soldier Zoe (Natalie Morales...

Cold Wallet 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Directed by Cutter Hodierne (Fishing Without Nets) and starring Raul Castillo (Knives Out), Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station), and Josh Brener (The Internship), the crime thriller 'Cold Wallet' is one of the most anticipated films of FrightFest due to its promising cast and intriguing premise. The film follows a team of 'Redditors' who lose everything after a cryptocurrency scam leads them to conspire to kidnap the financial influencer who scammed them. When their home invasion takes a turn for the worse, they become victims of a sadistic game. 'Cold Wallet' boasts a competent cast, a quick runtime, and an interesting premise, but its lack of depth and character development keeps it from being truly memorable. Director: Cutter Hodierne Writers: John Hibey, Cutter Hodierne Stars: Otoja Abit, Genevieve Adams, Elizabeth Aspenlieder As expected, the cast is absolutely fantastic and easily the film's best asset. Raul Castillo is wonderful in the lead role, playin...

Next Goal Wins 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
In 2001, the American Samoa soccer team achieved horrific immortality by suffering a world-historical 31-0 defeat to Australia. Ten years of misery followed with no discernible improvement, and then the team hired a foreign coach with his own problems: the troubled and temperamental Dutch-American Thomas Rongen, whose unofficial charge was to save American Samoa’s honor with a single goal. Bland photography and shallow writing are the least of my problems with “Next Goal Wins,” a movie-like blemish on the kind of entertainment known as sports underdog comedy. Director: Taika Waititi Writers: Taika Waititi, Iain Morris Stars: Michael Fassbender, Oscar Kightley, Kaimana Inspired by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison’s 2014 documentary of the same name, New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi has concocted something so lazy, offensive and comically sterile that the only deserved response is bemusement. Whatever Waititi’s past sins (I’m thinking of you, the embarrassing “Jojo Rabbit” (2019)), h...

Good Cop/Bad Cop 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer

Image
TV shows that depict law enforcement officers dealing with their professional and personal lives often take themselves very seriously, like “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Chicago P.D.” But series like “Reno 911!,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and now, The CW/Roku Channel’s “Good Cop/Bad Cop” have injected some much-needed levity into an often dour and cynical genre. Created by John Quaintance, this new eight-episode dramedy (critics screened six for review) is quirky, silly and endearing. Though the criminal cases follow a similar structure to other police shows, the eccentric characters and banter among them are what makes “Good Cop/Bad Cop” such an enjoyable series to watch. “Good Cop/Bad Cop” begins in the small fictional town of Eden Vale, Washington. Eden Vale's population of less than 10,000 means its law enforcement budget isn't exactly robust. The town's only female detective, Lou Hickman (a delightful Leighton Meester), relies on her cheerful disposition to s...

Riff Raff 2025 Movie Review Trailer

Image
Despite its highly capable cast that includes Jennifer Coolidge, Gabrielle Union, Ed Harris and Bill Murray, Dito Montiel’s Christmas movie has little in the way of warmth or humor. Despite running just 103 minutes, Dito Montiel’s family-friendly crime comedy “Riff Raff” is exceptionally long. Its all-star cast performs admirably, in a film that takes its time getting started, reveals and confronts little once it does, and uses none of its story twists to develop its dramatic themes or flat humor. As secrets from the past catch up with a father and son, threatening to detail their idyllic new lives, the film’s established ideas about love and family don’t come into play, but rather simply float out of focus, waiting to be implemented. Unfortunately, they never do. Director: Dito Montiel Writer: John Pollono Stars: Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union A fleeting, one-shot prologue portrays a climactic moment during which docile teenager DJ (Miles J. Harvey) pulls a gun on ...

Invincible 2025 Tv Series Season 3 Review Trailer

Image
The fourth episode of Invincible season 3 was split into two sections. The first half was set in an alternate, futuristic version of Earth where Mark had supposedly crowned the Immortal as emperor and left the planet with his family. The Immortal then lost his mind and became a mad dictator whose robot army imprisoned or killed anyone who rebelled against him. When Fightmaster and Dropkick pulled Mark out of his timeline and threw him into theirs to deal with the Immortal, the latter revealed that he behaved like a genocidal maniac to get Mark's attention and force the superhero to kill him. Mark hesitated, but after assessing the Immortal's mental state, he decapitated him, knowing that death would be a welcome gift for him. After Mark was returned to his timeline by Fightmaster and Dropkick, he went on a date with Eve, while the show moved on to its second half, which was mostly about Allen orchestrating a jailbreak with the help of Battle Beast and Nolan. Yes, it was a succ...
