This French thriller highlights the problems of the police system and poses violent rivalries that will make viewers' hearts beat faster. However, the film is different from other films of the genre that we have seen on Netflix. It has a psychological angle that sets it apart from the others and poses a series of shocking revelations that will give you goosebumps.
The story follows Antoine, a police officer with his own demons, who is transferred from one department to another after getting caught up in shady fighting networks. However, after a few months, when his former colleagues start turning up dead, he investigates what's going on and stumbles upon a powerful drug ring. However, that doesn't seem to be all. The story is familiar in some ways, but it has nuances.
For one, the protagonist isn't the cleanest person to follow, which gives the story a special touch. You expect the police to be good people, but the grey tone of these characters makes the film stand out. The direction also gives the film a special touch and the tone is constantly sombre and serious. The constant reminder that something else is going on is enough to keep viewers hooked. Of course, the threats also help keep the atmosphere alive.
I think it also helps that our protagonist is quite vulnerable and willing to apologize for his mistakes. However, there isn't much action in the true sense of the word. French action movies have more fighting and less logic, but I was surprised to find that Squad 36 is a bit different. However, I do feel the weight of its length at times, at just 2 hours, it can get a bit slow. Also, there are several moments in the film that feel cliché and repetitive. However, I think overall it keeps the mystery alive and the twists are quite entertaining.
The French film Squad 36 is quite entertaining and different from others of the genre on Netflix. The politics within the French police force are delightfully twisted and it is an enjoyable film to watch that is well presented. With good performances, this film will attract a lot of people's attention.
